HILLY KRISTAL R.I.P

This pertains to my subculture so i have decided to repost since this man paved the way for punk rock by providing a venue like CBGB in nyc for acts like Blondie, The Ramones, Patti Smith, Talking Heads, etc... (The list goes on & on) It's always cool when a venue owner looks past what's not really cool at the time & allows something new & original to have an outlet at their venue. Hilly Kristal did just that while disco was contaminating the airwaves and clubs in the 70's. Hilly went against the grain and allowed his venue to become the outlet for a new era of music, and for that i will always respect him. Hilly Kristal, died on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 from complications from Lung Cancer. Kristal, 75,founded the legendary club CBGB and ran the club for 33 years.

MY BLOODY VALENTINE

Reuniting?

So the rumors that one of my favorite bands is reuniting for next years coachella fest. No not The Smiths, i already addressed that in a previous post. Instead it's "MY BLOODY VALENTINE" Coachella is known for getting it's way and they have the funds to pretty much re-unite any band. Let's see if this one happens, till then here is some nostalgia.

BAT FOR LASHES

So when i first heard "Bat for Lashes" i wasn't a real big fan. I thought a bit too folky. Too much on the Tori Amos tip, yes i hate Tori Amos. Sorry hate is a strong word, but all those ladies on pianos in the 1990's was just too much and overated (Jewel, Sarah Mclachlan, and the ever popular Tori Amos) Sorry all you piano loving lady singer fans.BUT! then came this single, which i found sounds nothing like the other tracks by Natasha Khan of Bat for Lashes "Whats a girl to do" has more layers & has this ghost like feel. You get the same feeling when you watch the video. The video is great & comes with animal masked bmx riders. It was directed by: Dougal Wilson

Morrissey says "No" to reunite The Smiths (AGAIN!!!)


Billboard (Reliable source) stated:
Morrissey's publicist has confirmed the artist refused a $75 million offer to tour under the Smiths name in 2008 and/or 2009, with the only mandate being that Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr would be part of the band. The Smiths also declined a multi-million dollar offer to perform in recent years at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, Calif.

Ok so on Saturday night i made the best decision for my night time plans. Me and a group of friends went to see the movie "SUPERBAD" Now i'm glad i didn't pay attention to the trailors or commericials on this one, since it's being pushed as another high shool teen movie. I problaby would have rejected the idea of even seeing it based on the way the movie is being marketed. This is not an "American Pie" instead the humor is real, sarcastic, and not even funny at times. Which is what happens in real life, not all jokes are funny but the expressions or scenerios are. That's what makes this movie great, i would see it again. And yes! i know who directed it and wrote it, blah blah blah. So in honor of problaby the funniest movie of the summer here is a plug.

CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG

Charlotte Gainsbourg is the french product of the late Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin. Like Serge she has decided to create music ,recently (kinda) she put out a record with colabs w/AIR & Jarvis Cocker of Pulp fame. You can definit. hear the Air influence, the music sounds entirely like AIR with her singing on it. But her voice is all that really matters it's kinda scary to hear her father's influence. Serg left us with countless musical masterpieces & his greatest masterpiece his daughter!

Believe it or not these guys are from Texas! And don't label them goth you morons. This vid has a depeche mode feel with the lighting and synth keyboards intro. I love you but i've chosen darkness (great band name) have several other videos and they are all great, go check them out.

So it looks like i have internet again (for now)...

THE MARK a small venue on the beach where i used to throw my wed. party DAMAGED! and later on BLACK LIPSTICK thurs. has officially closed. According to the venue's management the new owners that bought the blding (not the bar) just were not feeling the mark and also were not happy with the financials (lease) So long story short, When the people that own the blding want you out they will eventually get their way.

Good times were had at the mark & many memories for the record books. The management and bartendars were always cool and i wish them the best in whatever ventures they all pursue.

As for BLACK LIPSTICK THURS.
here is a preview for next weeks launch...


PS: Sorry for posting BL was on last week, i was not told they were not opening up the mark until 2hr prior to opening. Sorry for all those that drove out there to find chained doors. Kinda funny though.

So this is my first real post in 2 weeks, since then i have moved back to Miami Beach. I will miss downtown Miami but truthfully with all the condo boom and the prices of rent skyrocketing it's not worth living in downtown. Not to mention they are neglecting to build restaurants and other basic needs in that area which make life a bitch. More on my moving details later in a future post...as for tonight!
